Despite the cold, wind and torrential rains, the Ash St. Loo Opening and World Toilet Day celebration turned out a great crowd!
After Randy thanked the various organizations for helping make this Loo a reality, including the Water Bureau staff, PDC (funding), PBOT (siting), Marla Swade (door art), Curtis Banger (designer), Greg Madden (fabricator) and the Art Institute (marketing), Carol McCreary gave an empassioned speech about worldwide sanitation and how it relates to Portland's efforts. Carol is co-founder of the grassroots organization, PHLUSH, and compared Randy's efforts to site bathrooms in Portland to Simon Benson's commissioning of drinking fountains around the city. She generously compared the elegance and function of the popular Benson Bubbler drinking fountains to the Portland Loo, which she both calls street furniture.
We are very excited to have unveiled the 3rd Loo and look forward to many more around the city.
Please "like" the Loo on Facebook for the latest updates.
