Saturday morning at 2:22 am Portland Firefighters were called to a residential fire at 4033 SE Hawthorne Blvd. When they arrived fire crews found heavy fire coming from the second floor window of a residence. The three story house had been converted to have a single apartment above a ground floor business. Engine 9 (Hawthorne District) arrived first and immediately began attacking the fire.
Firefighters from neighboring stations began searching the structure for occupants while ventilating to remove deadly (and flammable) fire gases. The fire was recalled (declared under control) at 2:52 am and firefighters began the overhaul process (removing any material that could reignite). No injuries were associated with this fire; however, the homes only occupant will be displaced. The Red Cross will be assisting the adult male occupant.
Investigators are still working to determine the cause of this fire and to estimate damages. This release will be updated with this information as it becomes available.
