As emissary from Commissioner Leonard, the City's official liaison to the Rose Festival, this afternoon I had the honor of braving near-monsoon rains and walking through lakes and mud to ride the inaugural run of the newest ride at the Rose Festival waterfront CityFair: Vertigo. It's the tallest ride Portland's Waterfront park has ever seen! Due to the rain, I did not take my camera on the ride or get a picture of it in action, but when the ride began spinning with a few dozen reports and I aboard, it lifted us all up, higher than the Morrison Bridge, but dizzyingly close, and then began to twirl us around so fast that our seats edged us outwards horizontally. It was very exciting to be up so high, yet so close to the Morrison Bridge- definitely a new perspective for this 11 year Portland resident. If you are a trooper and brave the elements, I highly recommend this ride, which usually lasts 2-3 minutes, but which was abbreviated for us. Don't miss tonight's fireworks display at 9:45 pm, coupled with a blues performance by our very own Curtis Salgado!
