Subject: Your Radio Interview of Mayor Sam Adams
John-
I just passed Mayor Sam Adams in the hall and, with a wry smile, he asked me if I was having fun. I asked him what was up and he said he had been on your radio show last night…and nothing more.
Curious, I went back to my office and was able to listen to your entire interview of Sam last night;
I was mortified.
The comments you made to and about Sam during your interview of him were beneath you. While I will not get into a “point/counter-point” with you on some of the caustic and even untrue comments you made towards and about Sam during your interview, I will say that he is a human being and the Mayor of our city and as such he deserves to be treated with dignity and respect.
Even though you and I may agree that AAA baseball in Portland is important I cannot allow the impression to exist that I in any way am associated with the comments and attacks you made on the Mayor of Portland last night. Even more importantly, your vitriolic attack on the Mayor has galvanized those that oppose any public financing of a baseball stadium in Portland now and into the foreseeable future.
Thank you.
Commissioner Randy Leonard
