It is very unfortunate that the Greek Cusina is closing its business. Ted Papas, the owner, was given several years--arguably more than any other business in the same condition--to address the very significant fire safety and structural issues that he created within that building doing unpermitted construction work. Mr. Papas did nothing to correct the issues he created within the building, even though he was aware that the building's condition jeopardized the lives of his employees, his patrons, and firefighters who would be charged with combating a fire in that unsafe structure.
Unfortunately, despite many resources from the City aimed at keeping The Greek Cusina open while resolving the serious life safety issues, Mr. Papas' chose instead to close his business and turn his building over to the bank. His portrayal of himself as a victim in this circumstance is hollow, as he was given every opportunity to live up to his responsibility to provide a safe structure for his employees and patrons, and he instead chose the path that led him here.
